KUALA LUMPUR: Marina Mahathir has hit at Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who said as a Muslim, she does not support the LGBT community.
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Wan Ismail said in a recent interview with radio station BFM that she would not support or agree to the LGBT community lifestyle as it was haram (a sin or forbidden).
In a Twitter, the daughter of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Marina today asked, “Dear @drwanazizah, did you just call a lot of people including me who have shown the slightest bit of compassion towards marginalized people in our society haram??”
Marina also posted on Twitter a link to Nikkei Asian Review‘s article in which PKR-elect president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was quoted as saying: “Malaysian society must live with different beliefs and ways of life and must respect people who are different, including gays, bisexuals and those who identify as transgender.”
“The most important thing for us as Muslims is that it is haram. I do not condone it. I do not say it is okay,” Wan Ismail told radio station BFM.
